Introduction of the event

The annual national convention brings together all the chapters of the Union from all over the United States of America. There are also delegations from cities that have not yet established or registered chapters, but have individuals and groups who share the same philanthropic ideals and principles of helping our kinsmen in the Ibadan-land, in the heart of the Yoruba nation in Western Nigeria. Examples include Indianapolis IN, Merrillville IN, St. Louis MO, and Tampa FL.

Friday October 17 - National Election This year, an election will take place to choose leaders for the national executive positions for the years 2008 – 2010, a two-year term. Most of Friday evening will be spent on fraternizing, sharing of experiences, union issues and organization affairs.

Saturday October 18 – Convention Night Party On Saturday, discussions and papers on pertinent subjects and areas of interest that will be beneficial to our objective to help our folks back home and a slide-show of many of the previous achievements of the organization, visibly on the ground in Nigeria.

The final event will be the convention party, which is a formal occasion, during which some time will be spent to review all the programs embarked upon by the I. D. U. This will be followed by a presentation event in which dignitaries, local and international will be recognized and meritorious awards presented. We plan for the guests to have a good and memorable time, a buffet-style menu of various African and American cuisines will be provided. The plan is to generate some funds at the gate by making tickets available way before the event. This party is expected to have an attendance of about three hundred people. There will be a live band and cultural entertainment.

Event Date The event starts on Friday, October 17 - Saturday, October 18, 2008

Event Time Formal program commences from 6 p.m. on Friday, October 17, and ends with a night convention finale and party on mid-night of Saturday, October 18, 2008.

Event Venue All Event activities take place at the same location: Homewood Hotel 17400 South Halsted Street, Homewood, IL 60430 This is a full service hotel with over 200 rooms and banquet halls. The hall has a maximum capacity of 450-seated guests. Check it out: www.homewood-hotel.com
