HE difference between the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Samuel Odulana and one of his subjects, Chief Lamidi Adedibu deepened yesterday.
The Olubadan said Adedibu would not be promoted if he refused to sign an undertaking to shun partisan politics.
The Olubadan-in-Council last week asked all the High Chiefs to give an undertaking not to participate in politics.
Adedibu, however, vowed never to sign the undertaking, and that nothing would happen to him.
The monarch said thugs could be accommodated in politics, but he and his Chiefs would not allow thugs in the traditional institution.

The Olubadan spoke when members of Ibadan Descendants Union, United States America (IDU-USA, Inc.) chapter presented him with a plaque in his Monatan residence, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital yesterday.
His words: "If we bring thugs to traditional institution, we are in trouble in Ibadan."
He reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the process of succession in Ibadanland is devoid of the highhandedness and bickering that characterise the political process.
The Olubadan observed that even though many want to assume traditional positions in Ibadan, "the Olubadan-in-Council would ensure that the process of selection is done in line with laid down rules and regulations and in consonance with the antecedents of Ibadan forefathers.

"There are currently two vacancies to be filled from the Olubadan line, but we have about 200 Mogajis and they all want to become Jagun.
"Some of them are well educated, some are professors, others are businessmen and many more are highly respected people in the society.
"But we will ensure that thuggery and other problems that typify the political process do not occur in the selection process. We are aware that some people may want to influence the selection, but I thank God that my chiefs and I will make the right choices."
The Olubadan added: "You can rig elections but you cannot rig traditional institutions."
The President of the IDU, New Jersey Chapter, Mr. Samuel Ajadi, thanked the Olubadan "for his foresight and leadership style".
He pledged the commitment of the union to the cause of Ibadan people, saying "various IDU chapters have contributed to the growth of Ibadanland through distribution of exercise books and provision of boreholes in different local governments."
Prof. Taoheed Adedoja, the Action Congress (AC) governorship candidate in the April 14, 2007 election, congratulated the Olubadan on his nomination for national honour, adding, "it was in recognition of his commitment to the development of Ibadanland and Nigeria in general".
The Olubadan urged members of the IDU and other descendants of Ibadanland to support efforts to create an Ibadan State and upgrade the Ibadan Airport.
