The Ondo State government, on Sunday, expressed shock over the flood that ravaged Ibadan, on Friday, during which several lives and properties were lost, saying that the disaster was very unfortunate.
The state governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, who rued the wanton waste of lives and properties that trailed the flood, which he regretted came about five days to a similar one that happened on August 31, 1980 commiserated with the people and government of Oyo State.
The governor also commiserated with the Oluba-dan of Ibadan, Oba Samuel Odulana, the Olubadan-In-Council and families of those who lost their loved ones and property, while he prayed to God to console them.
Mimiko, in a release signed on his behalf by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Kolawole Olabisi, said “I want to commiserate with the entire people of Ibadan, Oyo State in general and my colleague, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, the governor of the state, who had to cut short his umrah in Mecca, to take charge of things in Ibadan over this sad incident and the attendant woes that trailed it.
“It is not only an unfortunate incident, but a sad one indeed, coming at a time when we thought we have got such unfortunate occurrences behind us in this country. It is equally regrettable that the fury of the flood reared its head again, barely five days to a similar dreadful incident in the city on August 31, 1980, 31 years ago.
“May the good Lord consoles our people and grants those who lost their lives eternal rest in His bosom.”
