Flood: Accord Party asks FG to declare Ibadan disaster zone

Friday, 02 September 2011

The Accord Party has asked President Goodluck Jonathan to declare Ibadan a disaster zone over the recent flood that devastated the capital of Oyo State.

The acting national chairman of the party, Reverend Isaac Adebayo Adeniyi, who made the call in a statement, said “the scope of the disaster is too much for the affected individuals, the state government and institutions like the University of Ibadan and the polytechnic alone to bear. The Federal Government should, therefore, come up with a comprehensive aid package.”

While commiserating with the government and people of Oyo State over the disaster, Adeniyi also asked public spirited Nigerians and corporate bodies to join hands with the government in bringing relief materials to the state.

“I am making a clarion call to the Aliko Dangotes, the Femi Otedolas and others not to fold their arms in this trying period for the people and government of Oyo State,” he added.

Adeniyi also urged the people of the state and Nigerians in general to desist from building on river channels to avoid future disasters, as, according to him, “water will always find its level.”
